FOUQUIER-TINVILLE, ANTOINE QUENTIN (1747-1795)- originally an attorney. driven by debt to accept humble employment under the lieutenant-gneral of police. when the revolution broke out he was, as a friend of danton + robespierre, appt public prosecutor to the revolutionary tribunal. he dealt pitilessly w/ his friends as w/ his enemies. he sent danton to the guillotine. not eloquent. cold. unbribable. imprisoned himself in 1794.  after 41 day trial, it was his turn for the guillotine.
