WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government would have greater power to prosecute cases of fraud in contracts for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan under a measure introduced in Congress on Friday.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat, and Sen. Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican, said the bipartisan legislation would update a World War Two-era law against contracting fraud to ensure that it applies to U.S. military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The lawmakers said billions of dollars have been awarded to contractors who have delivered defective products to U.S. troops in the two countries.
Congress approved resolutions that allowed President George W. Bush to use military force in those countries, but never officially declared war against them.
Leahy and Grassley said that as a result, the 66-year-old law addressing U.S. statutes of limitations on contract fraud during times of war does not apply to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Current law suspends statutes of limitations during declared wars and then gives the government up to three years after the war has ended to prosecute cases of contracting fraud.
The legislation would extend the law to cover officially undeclared conflicts and give the government up to five years after the end of hostilities to prosecute fraud cases.
"It's a common-sense reform that's good for taxpayers and good for public confidence that war contracting is not a free-for-all with no criminal accountability," Grassley said in a statement.

meanwhile rocco assassinated and 1 year later christofor also assissinated. FC's joy at this recorded, continued to beatwife and daughter. MEANWHILE a cardinal guerra, handsome, had fallen in love w/ beatrice and would visit the palazzo cenci whenever FC gone. petition the women had sent to clement failed, lucrecia and B turned to card G, telling him their plans to murder FC. the card g, persuaded, told giacomo and meeting held in a room of the house. 2 vassals, olimpio and marzio also detested FC. 1st to make look like bandits, but scheme miscarried. abuse grew worse. B able to send message to card g and agreed for 1000 piastres, O+M would enter castle and kill FC in bed. 9/9/1588, FC drugged and O+M let in, but chickened out, but B, made them go back and kill him. drove a long nail through the eye to brain and another to the throat. at 1st, got away with it. wife and rest of kids arrested. M tortured w/out giving up his mistress!!! Giacomo and L confessed under torture but B didn't break. all sentenced to death.

I got my OTHER 99ยข ebay mexican pottery cat. one coming is a SMALL one. the one i posted earlier with the whiskers. THIS one is HUGE. 10 inches long. 9 inches high. seller said it had been outside for about a decade. it looks retty good for that. seller had a bad pic too. but on last day,nobody had bid and foo. 99ยข, plus shipping. just bid and if you get it, can resell with better pic, but i ain't selling it yet. like my pissed cosmos. delightful. mine. course, now where to put it?
stash under a chair for now. LOVE it.
