Old FOLK ART TOY Wooden MARBLE RAMP Race RED WHITE BLUE-$13 only. but shipping oy.

Don’t go thinking this is some tiny little homemade toy. It isn’t. It’s a big striking piece, and the colors make it as American as the Star Spangled Banner.

Some kid must have been thrilled. I’m guessing it’s somewhere around forty to sixty years old. It is put together with various wood screws and miscellaneous nails, just as you’d expect on a country home built.

It is approximately 30” wide and 31” tall. The spiraling ramp is 5 ½” wide, and the feet are 9”. It is VERY sturdy.

It is American country art, as far as I’m concerned. I won’t, but I could mention Cubism, as in Picasso or Braque. Any similarity in style is serendipitous – still, fun to think about.

Start your marble at the top at my arrow. It takes MY marble 15 seconds to make its run and come shooting out at the bottom.

You could put a bell there at the exit ramp. Better yet – a cat!

What was I talking about?! I’ll include the marble I used. It’s a peewee Bennington.

Empirically, it doesn’t have a bad side. Another thing I absolutely refuse to mention is the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. (I wonder how long it would take a marble to . . . Oh, never mind.)

American Country? Yes.
----------------Folk Art? Sure.
-----------------------Primitive? You bet your bippy.

RANDOM ESTATE SALE BLOGGING

friday i got to go into a house that i always wanted to. as a kid i would see this house leaving my grandparents house for years + years and is the grandest on this street. a oooh house. well, it was muc smaller than expected, but talk about mini mansion. sigh. should have taken a pic of the grand TALL beveled + stained glass hall door. the owner mostly had crap tho. i got 3 old wood screwdrivers, 1 very bad, but i felt sorry for it. i got another westcott ruler, but 15 inches. a ceramic connecting insulator and a wrist rosary. i'm sure i can make my $1.50. BUT I WAS IN THAT HOUSE!

ESTATE Antique NEW HAVEN 8 Day OAK Kitchen SHELF CLOCK-$90

I guess I’m a slow learner. It took me a few decades to be able to determine the likelihood that the clock you discovered in an estate actually works – even if you know zip about clocks. This one is a terrific example of what is now my rule of thumb

It stands 22 ½” tall and retains its original finish with no damage. Width = 13 ½” at the bottom. (4” deep)
