RANDOM 341 OBJECT
RARE 23” Antique ROYAL DUX Statue, RETOUR de CHASSE, Young HUNTER & Girl EMBRACE-$622
From the wingtips of the two game birds the boy hunter has slung over his shoulder to the soft curves of his lover’s ankle, this 106-year-old figure has remained in fine condition in spite of its delicate nature and substantial proportions – approximately 23” tall.
He’s just back from a successful hunt, as the gold embossed title implies, and his day seems to be getting even better as the young lovers embrace. His hide hunting garment is little more than a poncho with a belt, exposing his thighs . . . clean up to his ribs, and she is almost dressed in a rose colored robe, one breast having escaped; as in, wardrobe malfunction. I remember back when . . . oh, never mind.

RANDOM 341 OBJECT
FOLK ART Hand Painted PORCELAIN VASE 20” Tall – ROSES – INTRIGING SIGNATURE -$77
I’ve seen Victorian folk art paintings on Bavarian china blanks, Limoges blanks and, most frequently on old crocks. However, this is a first for me, and you’ll see why when we get down to the underglaze backstamp on the bottom.
Fabulous! I’d call that the “front” even though it is decorated all around. And hey! Who doesn’t love pink roses?
Here’s my predicament: I’ve never seen a Chinese vase used as a platform for folk art painting – or American Hand Decorated China for that matter. I’ve just about had a nervous breakdown thinking about it. Several bottles of nerve pills later, and I am as much in the dark as when I started. (You know what? I don’t think people even have “nervous breakdowns” anymore. The fad has gone the way of falling to floor in a swoon, aka, fainting.)
If you know that mark, let me know. I’ll store that up with all that useless knowledge I’ve crammed into my tiny little reptile brain. During my fifty-some years monkeying around with antiques I’ve accumulated vast stores of facts and historically important data. However, I’ve lost the ability to retrieve it. I really believe my chronic infestation of brain weevils has eaten it all up. (At least they don’t hurt.)
