ANTIQUE Miniature WATERBURY SHELF CLOCK, Wood & Brass + A THING I NO LONGER NEED-$66

Some thought I’d died since I let my eBay listings dwindled down to only three or four. Others assumed my brain had finally given up its last bit of functionality. But the truth is my little brother in Houston, Texas is sick, and I decided to go pay him a visit. I’ve wanted to do that for quite a spell but, like any antiquer worth his or her salt, I needed another reason to make such a long trip – something having to do with antiques.
So when I heard that a well known writer and collector of Art Nouveau decorative arts was contemplating the sale of her vast collection, and she was only a few hundred miles off the direct route from Ohio to Houston, I had my excuse. The only problem was the Art Nouveau was in New Orleans, which meant driving the length of the very heart of Missa-freekin-sippi, a drive I’d not wish upon my worst enemy.

The clock is cute as a bug, and it works. It stands 5” tall and is 3 ½” wide by 2” deep.

It has a little scratch, but nothing that can’t be rubbed out. It only attests to it age.
Don’t get me wrong: I don’t have anything against Mississippi, as a hole. It’s that long boring drive through the center with little to eat at the exits other than deep-fried lard on a stick.

I guess you’ve already noticed the solid brass skirt. It wraps all the way around and is in beautiful and mellow condition. The works are marked: “Patented May 29, 1894, Waterbury Clock Co. – U.S.A.”

It needs a little touch-up, and the dial needs to be made absolutely upright, but neither of those tasks involves any technical knowledge and can be done in a few minutes. It probably needs a cleaning as well.

That image shows two “things” you needn’t worry about. One is in fine condition. Well, both are in fine condition, it’s just that the guy whose image appears on the pin-back isn’t. I wore that metal badge for quite a spell after I bought it on 46th Street shortly after the buildings came down.

I’ll miss the clock, but I’m happy I no longer need the button.

PS – As soon as my body recovers from the trip, I’ll start unloading the truck, and you’ll see some of the finest Art Nouveau porcelains and other objects you've ever seen. (Yes. I was successful in making a deal on all of it.) Huckleberry the wonder pup went with me on the trip, but he didn’t seem to be worn out at all when we finally arrived home.
