OIL PAINT william p McDONALD & MARRIAGE LICENCE ROOKWOOD ARTIST W/ PHOTO- $1, 025
I think this auction offering may be unique in that the lot includes not only an oil painting by the deeply listed artist, William Purcell McDonald, but also his 1891 marriage license, documenting the wedding of Mr. McDonald to Mary Agnes Boland.
William McDonald had already been a decorator for The Rookwood Pottery for nine years when he married Mary Boland. He went on to become the head of Rookwood’s architectural department when it was established and remained in that position until his death in 1931. But there is even more to Mr. & Mrs. McDonald’s “contribution” to the arts. SATURDAY INQUISITION BLOGGING
