RANDOM 341 OBJECT

antique J I CASE THRESHING MACHINE co ORCUTT litho BROADSIDE AD + ENGINE-$344

No – This is not a reproduction or a reprint. It is an authentic Orcutt Lithograph (Chicago) from the late 19th Century. Very, very few have survived. This one is still with us because someone had the good sense to fix it down on heavy board before it deteriorated. At this point, all it needs is a custom mat to clean up the edges, and you’ve got yourself a rare piece of advertising with great color and super graphics.

The single sheet has three vignettes, the first featuring the company name, the eagle logo, and an image of their most current, bright red, threshing machine: The Ironsides Agitator Separator. You’ll notice a couple tears at the top, but overall, it remains bright, clean and in much better than expected condition. From what I can see by gently lifting the upper right corner, there is nothing printed on the reverse.

Along the bottom: “BIRDS EYE VIEW OF J. I. CASE THRESHING MACHINE CO., RACINE, WIS. U.S.A.”

The bottom image is the FRICTION CLUTCH CENTER CRANK TRACTION engine that would drive the Ironsides Agitator Separator.
Can’t you imagine the racket?! With a full head of steam, running all out, the governor spinning, its “balls to the wall,” and a whistle ready to cut through the din in case of emergency or “dinner time,” harvest days would have been anything but peaceful.

At the very bottom we see the lithographer’s information: “THE ORCUTT COMPANY, LEADING LITHOGRAPHERS – CHICAGO.”
But above that is something that makes me grin. “MAILED FREE.” I keep picturing the look on my postman’s face were he to pull into the drive for the daily pick-up and see one of these big rascals sitting in the front yard with an address label stuck on the side. Even though that refers to the “Write for Catalogue” printed in the opposite corner, it’s still funny, to me anyway.
