ALLIGATOR BORDER Langsdorf EMBOSSED POSTCARD St. Augustine S 559 HOTEL ALCAZAR-$39

It had a tiny scrap of paper stuck to it, but it came off . . . mostly. I was afraid to fiddle with it since postcards and I have never gotten along well. I’m sure an eraser or a slightly wet dab would take it entirely off. Elseways – Beautiful.

The next two images are “before and after” I rubbed it lightly. You’d better do it.

CHICKEN Poultry FEEDER Lidded OAKES Mfg. Co. TIPTON INDIANA Antique HANGING -$56

We never incarcerated our chickens. They roamed free but knew they had a safe place to roost when the sun went down. They’d come arunnin’ when they heard “Heerrre, chick, chick, chick,” knowing we’d be tossing corn or leftovers or something tasty out into the grass for them to seek and peck. Our chickens were not only “Free Range;” they were “Free Will.”

This feeder or waterer is heavy duty galvanized metal, and it has two hinged lids – one at the top for filling and another covering the trough.

It is divided into three sections, and frankly, I don’t know why. We never had fancy farm equipment. You aren’t going to use it anyway unless you take my advice and fill it with those tiny little chocolate candy bars they make now: “With nuts” “Without nuts” “Dark Chocolate.”
There is a little turn-latch to hold the lid open.

It was made by Oakes Manufacturing Company in Tipton, Indiana. They closed up years and years ago, but they resurfaced someplace in Florida where they made fire trucks under another name. The old location in Indiana became a flea market for a spell, then it got torn down.

I’m sorry. Go back and look at the picture of the brass tag. There is a shallow dent in it. That is the only irregularity on the whole danged thing. (Notice I called it an, “irregularity” instead of damage. The reason for that is: I’m the seller. If I were the buyer,” I’d point it out to the seller and call it, “damage.”) However, the little dent is exaggerated by my photo. You won’t mind it at all.

I should have mentioned this earlier: IT HANGS. The reason it was made to hang was to keep short animals from stealing food or water . . . maybe. But the reason it’s important now is . . . well, it hangs.

Don’t get excited – the blue is simply due to the fabulous blue sky under which I took the photo. I don’t want you to become overly excited and leave a tiny little wet spot on your chair cushion.
You’ll not find one in nicer condition, I’ll bet.

Antique HAND CARVED Wooden BOX, Sliding PYRAMID LID, Crisp, Fine, FOLK ART-$113

Ever since I found this wonderful little box, I’ve wondered: Who made it? When was it made? Where was it made? What was its purpose in life? - its raison d'etre, as Simone de Beauvoir may or may not have said. One thing I know she said made me question her intelligence when, at around age 20 or so, I first read it. Now I realize she was spot on. “If you live long enough, you'll see that every victory turns into a defeat.”
