RANDOM TEXAS
the weather is nice and will be til monday. drove around fort worth, showed me the 'lake shore drive' houses and the $$$ side of town. i had to pee, insisted on a mcdonalds. i expected wisconsin mcd's generic. OH NO, not this close to chi chi fort worth. it had been PIMPED. the bathroom was exquisite! fancy tile. WOOD stall doors. only 2!!! no paper towels. no messy tacky garbage can. i don't like their fries, so got tea, but OMG! they have this shit called sweet tea. i don't know how much sugar the use, but it not really sweet. it is beyond sweet, it is toxic. and that is all they had. the OC grill(?) had both kinds of tea. but i added water and lemonade and made acceptable lemon tea.
then went to downtown fort worth's art fair cause we had the time and it was THERE.
got some great building architecture pics.
i could do that fair with an investment to up grade, but hell no. 4 day fair? no. maybe ann arbor.
went to the apartment before chinese. needed lighter fair. i wanted to cook, but that was out, and i have a simple recipe. did i mention my italian chicken? i feel like i am living in the odd couple and i am definitely oscar!
nice chinese place. came back, watched part 3 + 4 of pacific. ready for part 5!

RANDOM 341 OBJECT
ODD Antique OIL PAINTING of ROSES, Signed “M.R.” - OHIO-$305
Isn’t that nice? It has a soft, mellow presence – very relaxing. It’s also a nice size oil painting from sometime around 1910-1920, I’d think.
Overall = 28 ½” by 21 ½”
Painting on panel = 22 ½” by 15 ½”. (I didn’t remove the protective paper from the back. Someone, probably a family member, has had it reframed sometime recently, and I didn’t want to mess with it.)
“And just what exactly is “odd” about the painting?” you ask. To me, it looks like it was painted by an older person – someone who saw his or her glass almost empty. The roses are beginning to droop a little. Maybe the artist had looked in the mirror once too often. I really don’t know that for sure, but you’ll have to admit you don’t see wilting roses in a painting very often. I love it!
See how the petals are beginning to curl? I know just exactly how they feel. (By the way: I have a possible attribution as to the name of the artist.)
Funny. I’ve had this painting for months, and I’d never noticed the initials “MR” in the bottom right corner. It came from a home in Cincinnati, Ohio. I bought it at the little country auction down the road from us. A lot of paintings by Rookwood pottery artists show up at that auction. I’m wondering if this could be the work of Martin Rettig. It is correct in both subject and style.
