RANDOM 341 OBJECT
After several days searching the Internet, even asking for help from appropriate boards, I had to say: “Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. I can’t find even one example anyplace.”
ANTIQUE Porcelain FLASK with EAGLE & ARROWS on SHIELD Rare CEREMONIAL FRATERNAL-$276
After several days searching the Internet, even asking for help from appropriate boards, I had to say: “Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. I can’t find even one example anyplace.”
Here’s what I know about it. It stands 3 ½” tall and is 2 ¾” wide at the widest part. The body swells to about 1 ½” fat at the center.
I also know it’s quite old, and the cap is “Mason’s Patent type”, albeit unmarked. And most importantly, I guess, I also know it to be in exquisite condition.
The crisply embossed eagle, arrows and shield appear on only the face. The reverse is a beautifully mottled and flawless glaze – same as the front.
So what does it mean? How was it used? Is it ceremonial – or perhaps used in some fraternal organization’s rite? (drinking from the same flask etc.) How about GAR? Any possibility of that? I just simply don’t know.
All I can do is guarantee you’ll love it. Well, I think I can also guarantee it to be a rare bird indeed.
I suppose you noticed I figgered out a sneaky way to give you a cryptic hint as to what’s coming up next.
