FLUGEL, JOHANN GOTTFRIED(1788- 1855)- german lexicophrapher, originally a merchant's clerk, emigrated to america in 1810. made study of thew english language + returning to germany in 1824, appt prof of english at leipsic. in 1838 became american consul + representative + correspondent of many scientific + literary institutions of america.
