3 ABUSED(damaged) hand painted TURN TEPLITZ AMPHORA vases- $31

You’ll need to stay alert as you read through this description, and it’s my fault. I was going to sell the pair together as one auction, and then sell the lone vase as another auction, but midway through, I changed my mind and decided to put them together. To make things even more confusing, I even added a couple things to the lot: “Lagniappe,” as were.

RANDOM 341 OBJECT

antique VICTORIAN tinted PHOTO mother reads fairy tales BLOCKS-$132

I was the first person to remove this fabulous old photo/print from its frame. Each nail holding the original wood backing was in place, and there were no telltale marks on the wood. The only reason I took it out was to retrieve the body of a tiny little spider from behind the glass so I could give him a proper and traditional little spider burial.

But when I removed the glass I was really happy I did. The inside was hazy – not really dirty – but cloudy enough that the extraordinary colors of the print were muted by the haze. It is now so remarkable, I almost kept it. And I would have except for strong objections from What's-her-name.

The image is on thick board, cut on a bevel and laid down on the stiff backing. Furthermore, I believe the green/dark teal and gold of the frame is original as well.

The photo is actually even crisper than my ability to show, which, I guess makes me the weakest link.

And while we’re on the subject of “crisp,” just look at those dresses.

See the toy building blocks? I wonder if that floor vase is bronze or something else . . . .

That is written on the back – another reason I’m glad I took it apart. For all I knew she could have been reading something grotesque and ugly, saying something like,
"Doesn't that remind you of you father? You girls remember this little poem:
Love no man,
not even your brother.
If girls must love,
love one another."

What do you mean, you can’t read it?
Maybe the next picture will help. It took me FOR – EVER, but I finally found out what it said.
I found that ad in a 1903 issue of the Miami University publication: “Miami Student.” Just so happens it is the oldest university newspaper in the United States, its first issue was in 1826. (Miami University is in Oxford, Ohio.)
