ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA

ANDREW & ROBERT FOULIS-  2 scotish printers + publishers. bob older, b 1707 andy in 1712. father a maltman in glasgow + had ordinary schooling. bob apprenticed  to a barber, but his ability attracted attention of dr frances hutchison, who recommended he try printing. after spending 1738-39 in england + france, w/ bro, who had been intended for the church + more schooling, he started his business in 1740/1 + in 1743 appt printer to the univesity. printed  greek book blah blah blah set up an art school = collected art, sculpture models, helped students, but scotland not ready. bob died 1st. sold his collections, but still in debt.
