FOTHERGILL, JOHN (1712-1780)- eminant physician,member of  the society of friends. b yorkshire. took degree in edinbough 1736. in the epidemics of influenza in 1775 + 1776 he was said to have had 60 patients daily. studied conchology? + botony. his collection of shells, prints + etc sold for £ £ after his death.
