FOSSOMBRONI, VITTORIO- 1754-1844 a tuscan statesman + mathmatician. b abrezzo. educated in Pisa. appt in tuscany 1782. 12 yrs later entrusted by grand-duke w/ direction of the works for drainage of the val di chiani after writing of treatise on it.. 1796 made minister for foreign affairs. made minister + on erection of the grand-duchy into the ephemoral kigdoms of etruria, became a member of the commission of finance. after annexation of tuscany to the french empire, he was made chevalier of the legion of honour by napooleon + named head of the commision for draining the pontine marshes. 1st minister of the restored grand-duchy in 1814 + july terminated by his death. author at 18, married + died at 90.
