antique WWI 1916 german war pan propaganda housewife memorial- $26

Much like the scrap drives in the U. S. during WWII, Germany carried on official collections of metals for their war effort from around 1914 through 1917.
This skillet made of iron was given to housewives who collected and contributed copper to that effort in 1916-17. The commemorative script around the rim, which gave these women a sense of sacrifice and victimization, says: “Gab Kupfer für das Eisen hin, der deutschen Hausfrau Opfersinn / Im Weltkrieg 1916"
