antique GAR flag bookstand lecture women's relief corp, cast iron- $227
The cast iron base of this combination bookstand / lectern carries the raised seal of the Women’s Relief Corps, once a secret organization formed in 1879 but officially recognized (by the G.A.R.) in 1883. Oddly, its membership consisted of women who remained loyal to the Union during the American Civil War.
