The man on this advertising ashtray is a depiction of something Frigidaire wrote about in their early ads: “The Modern `Iceman' Calls Once with Frigidaire and the Ice Stays Always.” On his shoulder is a Frigidaire compressor that would convert your icebox into a refrigerator. Without intention, the folks at Frigidaire found themselves mentioned in many a teenage boy’s dirty joke because of their ads insinuating that Frigidaire replaced the iceman.
