Fauvism, as a movement, lasted only about ten years. In my opinion, it wouldn’t have lasted that long had Gertrude Stein not bought one from Matisse at the first show to feature Fauves back in 1905. (Matisse, Dufy, and a couple other mavericks called themselves “fauves.”)
