Ever since I found this wonderful little box, I’ve wondered: Who made it? When was it made? Where was it made? What was its purpose in life? - its raison d'etre, as Simone de Beauvoir may or may not have said. One thing I know she said made me question her intelligence when, at around age 20 or so, I first read it. Now I realize she was spot on. “If you live long enough, you'll see that every victory turns into a defeat.”
