I backed the shiny part into a streetlight pole once (1963 or 64). Bent the thing a bit, but didn't hurt the tailpipe inside. The next morning at church, my date told me there was no obvious damage to the pole.

my delta's survived a few 'fender' assaults. but loved the rubber barge protector's on my mom's 73' chrysler the best. luckily the flying wheel missed my 72's bumper and killed the header + hood.
