CHAMBORD- gothic chateau of france. begun in 1532 by francis I, carried on by henry II and finished by Louis XIV. built in black stone. famous as residence of diana of poitiers and stanislaw, king of poland whose s-i-l, louis XV bestowed on marshal saxe. given by napoleon to marshal berthier, representativeof the bourbons, who became count de chambord.

CHAMOIS-gemse of the germans. the only antelope in west europe. goat-like, 3 ft long, 2 ft high at shoulders. the horns about 6-8 inches long. black slender, round, and slightly striated and hook backwards.
