If you can spare the $6.00, $6.00 seems like a bargain.
I stared at the pictures for a long time last night thinking about how complicated the inner works must be to perform all the functions.
People older than I would probably argue that the line winding guide is unnecessary.

i think it would work, but not very well. probably why i never heard of pleuger, but i should ask my cousin the fisherman. it does turn, but maybe not for casting.
saw an exact copy on ebay went for about $30. no date on it. think it's just missin a rod and hook and bobber, but what do i know? uh....it's a reel.
pretty tho ain't it.

Pflueger is a well known name in fishing reels.
Do some serious price checking if you're going to sell the thing. Don't let it go for cheap. (I have no interest in buying it.)
It is a casting reel as distinct from other types like spinning, spincast, fly fishing. The casting function is related to my comment on the line guide part.

you say its a caster? beyond my grasp then. may be missing a part. or 2.
no plans to sell it.

You need a rod, some line and some things to attach to the end of the line to go with the reel. There are different styles of fishing which tie these components together.
What you have is a casting reel. If you were fishing from shore, you might have to cast. From a boat or a dock, you might just use it like a derrick to get the hook and bait in and out of the water.
Just don't give it away to someone who offers you a lowball price. OTOH, it may not be worth much.
