Dioncassius called him tarantus cruelty displayed early. tried to assasinate father. killed brothergeta in front of his mother, seized power on father's death. butchered 20,000 people he suspected, but did feel remorse and went mad. plundered and criminal acts. massacre in alexandria for sarcasms against him. laid waste to mesopotamia becuse artahamis, parthian king, refused to give him his daughter to marry. killed in 217 for Macrinus, who succeeded him.
