gotta do more of these as my notes are piling up.
CAGOTS-people found in the basque provinces, bearn, and gascony. in middle ages looked upon as cretins(retards), lepers, heretics, and even cannibals. excluded from all political and social rites and not even allowed into church, exceept thru a special door. no mass! had to wear distinctive clothes. in some place, an attached foot of a duck or goose(whence they were sometimes called canards). 'untouchables'. barefoot in the common road. only trades open was butcher and carpenter and usually woodcutting. language was corrupted of the local one. blue eyed and fair. high cheekbones. prominant noses w/ big nostrils. straight lips and marked absence of the auricular lobes, decendants of the visigoths.
