RANDOM CRITIQUE POST
been working on this landscape. i had it in my head, but isn't working like i thought. not sure i want to waste more paint on it. the viridian on the tooo bright green works. but add some grass? tone down the top trees? of course the viridian was a light wash over thick. hoping something neat happens when dry dry. oh, it's about 4ft x 4ft
anybody got any thoughts?

Tough one. The painting isn't bad as is, but it does not feel done. A very thin row of bushes at the bottom perhaps? The green is riding shotgun over this one and that might show it who's boss... I think if you put grass on the green, the green would rebel and make whatever you put on it look like an interloper.
It reminds me of a less abstract Rothko; two or three colors with a dramatic spacing. Rothko would often control that wide open space with a border.
Just a thought.

i did add some medium green(not like the lower green)into the top. debating if i need to put in sky. may be the problem. needs some bright blue. or light grey.
don't think i want to add any grass on the bottom. sort of reminds me of the grass as you see it in a car but also, what may happen wen it dries. either gonna wrinkle or crack i think. i like the bottom. it's the top that bothers me.
don't want to make it to rothko. BUT, i appreciate him more, cause to do what he did is not easy. i got monkey arms, but shit. also painting on the floor

I kind of vacillate on Rothko myself. Sometimes I think, "Did you really need to make so many of those damn things? I mean, we get it, alright? Now, how about giving me something to look at?" But then I see one in person, and I think, that's not too bad (and I can't blame any artist for finding a way to make a good living with their art).
The sky might be a good balance to the green. It would open the top up and totally change the focus/topic of the painting. Right now, for me it's about the field and the all the things that might be done in that wide-open, unused space; not just in the fall, but as it moves through the seasons. Add the sky, and then it may be more about a specific time and space. Can't say for sure though. I will say that it is growing on me as is.
I'm sure you'll solve it. :-)

thanks. but still looked better in my head. but the top was more subtle. i may have to try the subtle. then maybe i don't need the sky. plus. it looks to 'close'. the green has 'space'. pic is bad, so hard to see. which i didn't really attempt.
