RANDOM ARCHITECTURE POST

i found this place the other day when i took a different route to the farmer's market. 2nd pic has the canon sureshot's problem. happens occasionally.

Comments:
Well, the problem actually makes for a kinda interesting picture.

usually it is just pink where the high highlights are. i guess it was almost the way it should be. loved the blue streaks.
but not as interesting as when i dropped a roll of 35 mm into the lake overnight. took some very interesting pics. i should scan my favorites in.
whe i print the booboos out tho, the pink gets more pepto.

The pink/mauve effect looks pretty good.

Any idea about what the building once was and/or date of construction (1930's or 40's maybe)? Just wondering...

Over here, I recently discovered that my State of Louisiana library card allows me to access the Sandborn insurance maps statewide dating back to, in some cases, the 1870's...in addition to the map key, some notes indicate building fuctions and whatnot. They're a pretty nice starting point/tool for people interested in construction/architectural history...

how cool. i love old maps and such. i might be able to take the address to the historical society's web site. or if i was really adventurous, to the county deeds. the land the house i live in used to be a celery farm before 1926. my pussywillow tree sure likes it.
course, i have to find out what road it was on. 65th? 66th?
the pressed steel place was not far, but this doesn't look as heavy industrial. looks pretty deco machine ethic. so could be 1925-194ish. the top of the building makes me think late 20's 30's.

maybe i can find out what it was.

If you find out, feel free to post it. I wouldn't mind knowing. The building reminds me of some structures I used to see out around the near east side when I lived up in Madison (Wisconsin).

Down here, you tend to see more wood or brick than limestone, although Baton Rouge has a few stone/art-deco things (like, ahem, the capital and annex...laff, i.e., the show pieces of the city). I was telling someone the other day that I have an interest in urban renewal (my downtown neighborhood is undergoing just that)...which means I also have sort of a perverse interest in urban decay. Alas, there's plenty of THAT over here, but maybe one day things will turn around.

there's a website that First draft linked to-abandoned places. people finding all these decaying abandoned buildings. very cool-try to like luddite.
http://community.livejournal.com/abandonedplaces/
thinking back, i have always had an interest in them. document things.
i gotta get the address 1st.
